History

Aeronautical Exhibition

Picture
The Silver Centenary is a biplane which was built in Beverley between 1929 and 1930 by a local Selby Ford. Plans for the plane, which was named in honour of Western Australia's 1929 centenary, were drawn to scale on the floor of the Beverley powerhouse which Ford owned.

The aircraft made its inaugural flight on 1 July 1930 and was flown for the next 18 months, but after Ford proved unable to provide the authorities with blue prints and technical specifications, it was mothballed in 1933.

There is a wonderful interactive display, complete with a 1:5 scale model, exact replica of the silver centenary plane built in Beverley.

Avondale Agricultural Museum

Picture
Located on the grounds of Avondale Farm, just 6 km west of town on Waterhatch Road, the Avondale Beverley Agricultural Machinery Museum is one of the largest agricultural machinery collections in Western Australia. Many of our tractors are still in working order — a living tribute to over 100 years of machinery’s impact on agriculture.

Our dedicated volunteers open the museum on the second and fourth Saturday of each month, from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm (closed over summer).  Group visits can be arranged by appointment. Entry is free, and donations are always welcome to help keep this unique collection going.

Most days, you’ll find an engine or two running, giving visitors a glimpse into what life was like for the men and women who kept the farm productive and helped feed the nation — and beyond.
